Destitute families

The social policy of the municipality of Tunis towards the needy families shows solicitude for good of dimensions (financial dimension, urban dimension, associative dimension, interdependent dimension…).

Social action to the profit of the needy families:

Les aides municipales :

The Municipality of Tunis assists needy families by fixing financial aids to the profit of 540 recipients including 15 widows of municipal employees, it fixed also financial aids to the profit of the handicapped people: nearly 60 people as well as the children of the municipal employees. The municipality holds annually 196,000 dinars of fixed allowances to these categories (elderly, widows of municipal employees, handicapped people.)

Housing: Project of the oukalas
Within the framework the presidential interest to the inhabitants of the old buildings which threaten ruin and which require maintenance or a total rebuilding, insert the project of the oukalas decided by President Ben Ali at the time of his visit to the medina in 1990. Since this date, the municipality of Tunis does not cease assisting this category of inhabitants.

Objectives:
The rehousing of the needy families which live the buildings threatening ruin and which cannot have housing through the programs of the State (SNIT, SOPROLS) or the construction of a house or the purchase of a ground.

Recipients:
Needy families living the old buildings of multifamily apartment, tenants of a part, or two parts to the maximum and which do not have the conveniences necessary.

One third of the families is social cases without incomes (elderly, widows, handicapped people, divorced,…)

One third of the families does not have 200 dinars of income per month (hard-working of building sites, days laborer, craftsmen,…)

The third of larges families's of which income not exceeding the 300 dinars.
The actions of rehousing profited with nearly 1680 families as follows:

Within the framework of the continuation of this project, nearly 360 families will be rehoused, at the end of 2003. In addition, the municipality of Tunis intervened to place nearly 300 families within the framework of the national plans of the SNIT and the SOPROLS.

Construction of the basic equipment in the new cities to bring closer the services to the recipients of the project of the oukalas:

Extension of the basic school of Daouar Hicher
Extension of the basic school of the Mechtel city
The construction of one school in the city July 25th in Sidi H' ssine
The construction of one health care center in the city July 25th in Sidi H' ssine by the ministry for the Public health
The construction of a market of sale of vegetables and fruits in the city July 25th in Sidi H' ssine
The habitat with the profit of the municipal employees:
The municipality of Tunis works to ensure the social service for its agents and in particular the habitat through the setting at their disposal of grounds. It is preparing nearly 300 batches which will be distribuéS with the agents.

Subsidies granted to associations in social matter:

The municipality of Tunis puts at the disposal of associations in social matter of the subsidies with an aim of extending their fields of interventions and of increasing the number of recipients of the social services.

Assistance to obtain a source of revenue:
The municipality of Tunis helps certain young people of the poor families to obtain sources of revenue and this by the preparation of the social cases to the profit of 50 young people.

The partnership with associations in social matter:
The center of the handicapped people without support:
Design and the realization of a program common of assistance to the handicapped people without support for the house and adoption of 10 handicapped people of Sidi H' ssine as well as the installation of a set of activities dedicated to the handicapped people.

The Tunisian association of fight against AIDS:
Assistance with the patients of the AIDS, supply of foods for five members of association and the financial support with association requiring an envelope of about 2000 dinars.

The association of deep handicapped at the house:
The contribution to the supplementary programme fixed to the handicapped people who cannot work like their assistance to face the expenditure urgent and necessary.

Association Spaces El Amal:
Supply of school assistances and the clothes with 35 children of the cities Ennour and El Kabaria.
The organization of two excursions in collaboration with the summer camps with the profit of the adherent needy children of association.
The granting of financial aid of 20 dinars with certain children of Kabaria (1998-1999)

Center protection and of social integration of Mellassine:
Assistance and the framing of the young people living in difficult social conditions and the research solution adequate in the form of occasional assistances.

Tunisian union of social solidarity:
The UTSS offers a set of parcels of food aids in collaboration with the association of social action of the municipality of Tunis at the time of the month of Ramadan as of the parcels of school assistances at the time of the rentée school one as it offers assistances in the form of clothings or of covers to the people needy.
The UTSS takes part in the equipment of certain residences and offers school assistances to the pupils and to students of the oukalas as it offers parcels of food products and clothes of Aid.

Association of the pensioners:
The co-organization of the world day of the elderly (on October 1st)
The organization of a summer camp to the profit of the members of association and elderly of the cities of the oukalas.
The organization of excursions (Korbos and Hammamet) to the profit of the members and the elderly of the cities of the oukalas.

Tunisian association of social protection:
Assistance to 20 children annually at the time of the return to school and of Aid (clothes of Aïd)
Various interventions such as the assumption of responsibility by the association of the expenditure of studies of the children of the members of association, the purchase of medical glasses and the organization of remedial course for the young members of association.

Association Dignity:
The construction of 3 residences to the profit of 3 handicapped people with Bab Souika.
Periodic assistance of 10 families of the city of the oukalas.

The mutual insurance company of the agents of the municipality:
It contributes to the social assistance of the municipal employees (refunding of the medical expenses, Aïd El Idha, the return to school…)
