Medical Prestation

The medical department of the municipality of Tunis covers a full field of medical interventions. The services which are exempted there include the occupational medicine as much as the medical help of the citizen in his daily life.

The medical department is composed of two medical dispensaries and a medical guard. It has a medical departmental manager; doctor of the public health, a doctor of the public health full-time, 10 free-lance doctors and 60 contractual doctors who operate by rotation with the medical guard.

The municipal medical activity touches the occupational medicine, the preventive and social medicine, the prevention of the sexually transmitted diseases, the medicine of the civil statue, the medical guard urgently, the medical supervision of the municipal nursery schools and the medical cover of the sporting events.

Within the framework of the exercise of the occupational medicine, the Town of Tunis has a dispensary, equipped in particular with an apparatus of radiography devoted to assured medical monitoring with the municipal personnel working and administrative, that is to say on average 5000 people.
One ensures it the medical visit of recruiting, the periodic medical visit, the spontaneous medical visit, the medical control of sick leave, the study of the cases of exemption of the heavy work or change of work station, vaccination anti-rabic, antitetanus, antityphoidic or different, the blood analyzes of the working insecticide manipulators, first aid for the emergencies and the industrial accidents, and the prevention of the accidents of work and the occupational diseases.

Within the framework of the health and social assistance médicosociale to the profit of the population the town of Tunis, the medical department provides the medical assistances to needy in collaboration with the social service (doctor visit and supply of drugs), ensures the prevention of the propagation of the epidemics relating to the contagious diseases and carries out the medical supervision of the children of the municipal summer camps
The activity of disease prevention is limited to the medical control of the MST near the subjected women exerting within the framework of the legal prostitution (as an indication, 11309 gynecological examinations were carried out in 2001 out of 125 prostitutes), namely:

Clinical medical supervision at a rate of 2 gynecological examinations per week of each woman.

Biological monitoring of the principal “M.S.T”.

The bacteriological examination of the vaginal taking away, syphilitic serology (quarterly), the serology of the AIDS (monthly).

This service has the role also of offering to concerned medical education necessary and of sensitizing them on the rules of hygiene and medical prevention.The medicine of the civil statue, as for it, has the role the recording of all the reports of death of the Town of Tunis, the day before as for the compliance with the rules of hygiene at the time of the exhumations and transport of the skins and the study, if need be, of the causes of death. The medical department of the Town of Tunis in addition ensures a medical guard urgently the people needy during the night, the Sundays and bank holidays.
