The town of Tunis carries out the control of the degree of air pollution by means of a laboratory truck equipped with analyzers of precise measurements which make it possible to detect the higher rates of toxic carbon gazs (monoxide, oxide of nitrogen, sulfur dioxide and hydrocarbons) resulting from the various industrial activities. This enables him to intervene immediately with the industrialists to reduce the level of this pollution and to avoid the going beyond the international standards in force. These measurements also make possible the clearing of the road traffic in the crossroads encumbered while intervening on the traffic control.

Thanks to the master line of cleansing available to the town of Tunis, the rate of connection of the residences to the public network of cleansing reached the 100% for the small belt of Tunis. It is only with the periphery of Tunis that certain districts of rudimentary habitat deprived of network of cleansing persist and who evacuate their rejections to open sky.
Within the framework of a new industrial relations policy of integration of the popular quarters in the urban dynamics of the capital in order to ensure their inhabitants a better quality of life and an environment and vis-a-vis the acuity of the consecutive problems to the insalubrities’ areas born of the districts of spontaneous habitat, the town of Tunis engaged of the actions of rehabilitation of these districts, which profited from a new infrastructure of cleansing of waste water and drainage of rain water.

These actions will make it possible to provide totality with the communal perimeter urbanized of Tunis of a public network of cleansing before 2004 and to treat the whole of waste water collected before 2006 and this thanks to the installation of the last purification plant with the south-west of Tunis (District of Sidi Hassine essijoumi).
In addition, two operations of scale were launched: one for the cleansing and the restoration of the banks of the Southern lake of Tunis whereas the second relates to the installation of the old port of Tunis in modern site of pleasure.
Moreover, the town of Tunis carries out the control of the polluting hydrous rejections in the receiving medium (channels, wadis, sebkha of essijoumi), emanating from the production facilities deprived of station of preprocessing and not connected to the public network of cleansing.
It is necessary to note that according to the directives of the municipal council of the town of Tunis, the industrial fight against pollution is done also upstream. It then takes the priority granted to nonpolluting industries and high technology in which Tunis would like to specialize.
