Municipal Works

As part of local democracy, members of the City Council of Tunis address issues, make suggestions, and review municipal services.

Operation

The Municipal Council meets at least four times a year in ordinary sessions (February, May, July, and November sessions), each preceded by a preparatory meeting, at least one month in advance, and in the presence of citizens.
However, the council may meet in an extraordinary session at the request of the Mayor. The municipal district councils meet monthly with the elected representatives and the officials of the relevant administrations regarding the issues on the agenda. The meetings of the municipal council are public.
The composition and functioning of the Municipal Council of the City of Tunis are governed by Law No. 75-33 of May 14, 1975, concerning the Organic Law of Municipalities, amended several times, notably by Organic Law No. 95-68 of July 24, 1995, and Organic Law No. 2006-48 of July 17, 2006. After the revolution of January 14, 2011, most municipal councils in Tunisia were dissolved and replaced by special delegations, as provided for in Article 12 of the aforementioned Organic Law of Municipalities. For the municipality of Tunis, a special delegation was appointed by Decree No. 2011-384 of April 8, 2011, to perform the functions of the municipal council for a maximum period of one year. It is composed of 25 members and is chaired by Mr. Seïfallah LASRAM.
The inauguration ceremony of the special delegation, chaired by the Minister of the Interior, took place at the City Hall of Tunis on April 23, 2011.

– 8 members to preside over the commissions.
