Cleanliness is the principal priority of the municipal action. It is of an major importance in the approach of management of the daily newspaper of the inhabitants.
The place given to this sector encouraged the Municipality of Tunis to devote to him a volume of investment of most important in order to reinforcing its material capacities and its specific equipment.
The Municipality takes care of the following spots :

• Removal and transport of the household garbage and industrial waste and trade
• Sweeping of the streets and the pavements
• Removal of parasitic grasses.
• Removal and transport of waste of rubble and construction.
• Maintenance of the waste grounds.
• The removal of waste of gardens.
• Clearing out of the wadis and waterways.
• Washing of the avenues, the pavements and the places.
• Maintenance of the markets.
• Removal of the corpses of animals.
• Maintenance of the containers..
• Maintenance of the materials and machines of cleanliness.
• Exceptional cleanliness campaigns.
• Industrial parks. .
• Removal of the body of the vehicles.
• Opening of new discharges to receive spoil of demolition
  
  
• The removal of the industrial household garbage and waste and trade :

The operation of removal of the household garbage and industrial waste and of trade inside the communal perimeter of the town of Tunis proceeds in a regular way, by the judicious use of human resources, the material and the adapted equipment, such as the compressing trucks, the farm tractors, the trailers, the tricycles and the manual carts.
Approximately 220,000 tons of garbage and waste are removed annually.

• Sweeping of the streets and the pavements :

Manual sweeping :
The interventions of cleaning and sweeping of the streets, places and avenues in all the districts are carried out by municipal teams divided as follows :

• 4 permanent teams, made up of 100 agents and 10 tricycles, take turns day and night in the center town.
• 4 permanent teams, made up of 60 agents and 4 farm tractors and a light van are in charge of the sweeping of the entries of the city and the classified roads.
• 1 permanent team of 35 agents is in charge of sweeping to the garden of the view-point, with the help of a farm tractor.

Automatic sweeping :

Une douzaine d’engins est utilisée dans les grandes artères, les entrées de la ville et dans certaines rues de quartiers, les places, la Médina et l’Hyper centre de la Capitale.

Removal of parasitic grasses : This kind of intervention is carried out by two machines, it interests the waste grounds and the edges of the roads; moreover, three teams trained by 90 workmen and provided with 8 farm tractors, are occupied manually with this task in the pavements, the streets and the avenues like on the level of the banks of the wadis and waterways and the cemeteries.

Thus 30,414 m3 of parasitic grasses were removed as 354 hectares of waste grounds
