In 1789, Ahmed Bach Hamda son of Ali Bach Hamda bought the Dar and gave it his name.

1923, the Franciscan missionaries of Marie opened their first foundation in the middle of the medina, under the name of “our lady of the Hope”. Pursuing the same goal of Dar Bach Hamba is enough to guarantee success: a sewing room-school and a dispensary.

- A foundation with cultural vocation takes the place of the Franciscan ones. It is the foundation orestiadi whose seat is in Sicily; and Dar Bach Hamba became the “Arts center for the Mediterranean”.
