One finds in each one of them the various elements which usually characterize this kind of monuments: for knowing the cells of lodging of the students opening on the three sides of a central court, the fourth being occupied by the mosque is used for the courses and the prayer.

Built initially (1714), the médersa of the Palm tree is closest to the Ezzitouna University. Raised on the site of a “foundouk”, this médersa have its name of a palm tree which was in the small garden still visible with the center of the court. A gantry in gothic arches high on stone columns with capitals Turkish, runs on the four sides.

Currently, a religious association takes care there of the training of Coran.

In 1752, Ali Pasha builded the second medersa (school) which bears its name. The square court with its alignments of three arcs on each side, related to black marble columns with white marble capitals, wanting to be richer than the preceding one. One reaches it by the street of the Booksellers. Beside the entry, one notices the “sébil” or public fountain that Ali Pasha associated with his pious foundation. This sébil is consisted a stone vat. After its restoration, this medersa was assigned to a school of training of the Craft industry. While a Religious organization installed its seat in Tourbet (place of burial) of the founder.

In 1754, two years after the foundation of the medersa El-Covered, the medersa Slimania occupies the angle of the souk of the Booksellers and the souk El Kachachine. It was dedicated by same Ali Pasha in memory of his Suleimane son, died poisoned by her brother.

This medersa is characterized by a monumental porch high on columns with capitals Turkish and crowned from a cornice in green tiles. The unit raised compared to the street, takes a slimmer form. The entry is decorated with earthenware with bouquets and comprises stone benches.

The rectangular court is surrounded by a gallery with gothic arches resting on columns of limestone and capitals with volutes.

Like the others medersas, Slimania received a new assignment: it shelters medical associations of which that of traditional medicine.
