The Hamouda Pasha Al-Mouradi mosque is also known as Sidi Ben Arous mosque because it is right next door to the mausoleum of this saintly man. It was built in 1066 H/1655 AD by King Hamouda Pasha Al-Mouradi. It was the second mosque of the Hanefite rite to be built in Tunis. Its characteristic feature is the octagonal minaret. The attached tourba contains the tombs of the mosque's founder and his family members. It is a favourite place for prominent as well ordinary inhabitants of the Medina to hold ceremonies for writing wedding contracts. The Archaeology Department undertook restoration work on the mosque in 1960-1961.
