This medersa is located in "Souk des étoffes" (Cloth) facing the western facade of the grand mosque Azzitouna. It was founded by Mourad Bey, son of Bey Hamouda Pasha al-Mouradi in 1084 H/1673 AD. It was built on a lot where used to stand an old inn catering to henna traders. It was first called the medersa of at taouba (repentance); Azzitouna students lived there and some classes were also held in the building. Mohamed al-Ghemad (d. 1115 H/1703 AD) and Mohamed Zitouna (d. 1138 H/1703 AD) were among the Sheikhs who taught there. It is currently used as a training centre for traditional arts and crafts.
