Different sources attribute the creation of this souk to different rulers: either Rachid Ibn Hussein Ibn Ali or Pasha Ali II in 1182 H/1768 AD. Located between Souk al-Attarine and rue de la Kasbah, this souk has specialised since its creation in the manufacture of traditional shoes in the form of slippers called belgha and countra. Today the souk continues to specialise in footwear but it is mostly modern shoes that are found there.
