The souks of the medina
Souk Al Q'mach
This souk is on the main thoroughfare linking the two main neighbourhoods of the Medina (Bab Souika and Bab al Jazira) and is west of Azzitouna grand mosque.

Souk Al Q'mach (fabriks market) : This souk is on the main thoroughfare linking the two main neighbourhoods of the Medina (Bab Souika and Bab al Jazira) and is west of Azzitouna grand mosque. It is likely that the Hafside sultan Abu Amr Othmane had it built in the 9th H/15th c. AD on the site occupied by an older souk (Souk ar-Rammadine). The souk was famous for its local and imported cloth, especially cloth imported from India — al garmassoud being the most valued variety. Nowadays it is mostly locally made products (blankets, carpets, mergoums…) are to be found in this souk. As you enter the souk coming from souk at-Trouk you find on the right-hand side the zaouia where the learned man Ibn Asfour is buried.
