The souks of the medina
Souk At-Trouk
Built by Youssef Dey in the 17th century this souk was originally specialised in the trade of goods left in inheritance (the word trouk is a deformed version of trik plural of terka which means something inherited).

Built by Youssef Dey in the 17th century this souk was originally specialised in the trade of goods left in inheritance (the word "trouk" is a deformed version of "trik" plural of "terka" which means something inherited). It then became specialised in the trade of Tunisian traditional garments for men: jebba (loose robe), farmla and mentene (open and closed vests), serwel (pants), etc. Nowadays other handicrafts are sold in the souk as well. The souk can be reached either by street Ben Arous or by crossing the following souks: al Bey, al Birka, al Kebabjiya, al Q'mach and al Attarine.
