الإستقبال : Zaouïas  Sidi Abdel kader

Zaouias of the Medina
Sidi AbdelKader

Address : 16, Divan street
District : Medina

This zaouia cum "medersa" is located in street of divan (in Arabic Diwan or religious court). This is where the brotherhood al-Kadriya used to hold its rituals. The sect is one of the oldest to spread in Tunisia. It is affiliated with Sidi AbdelKader al-Jilani who lived in the Orient in the 12th century (his tomb still exists in Baghdad), and was introduced in North Africa by Sidi Madyen who would have received the "mystical secret" from Sidi Abdelkader himself. Al-Haj Mizouni, head of al-Kadriya, founded this zaouia in 1263 H/1846 AD and set it up as a medersa as well to strengthen the brotherhood. The courtyard, with lateral porticoes and tiled walls, leads to an elegant room with a dome decorated with sculptured stucco and which was used for classes, prayers and rituals
