Punic ports with the palate of the Presidency with, for links, the thermal baths of Antonin, the village of Sidi Bou Saïd and the old cathedral built on the hill of Byrsa, the headland of Carthage make it possible to the walker to discover, in a seizing short cut, all the history of Tunisia.
Of an exceptional historical density, this relatively limited space since covering a thousand of hectares, in fact the only Tunisian history exceeds to deliver a whole side of the History to us.
3000 year old rich person of marked human presence, it recovers all at the same time the cradle of the African history, a high-place of Roman antiquity, one of the most significant examples of Arab architecture and the seat of a civilization which 2000 years after its fall, us fascine still.

These places constitute a prestigious historic site of which little country in the world can be made proud to have the equivalent.
Tunisia is thus the guardian of an inheritance which one can describe as universal. This character was recognized to him besides by the United Nations Organization: the site of Carthage appears in the list of the World heritage drawn up by UNESCO.
More:
This exceptional site, Tunisia was determined to transform it into a vast archaeological walk where the Tunisians and the visitors will come to admire its landscapes, to contemplate its vestiges, to discover its monuments.
Conscious of the celebrity of its past, Tunisia has work to preserve this heritage against natural degradation and also against the risks which the land pressure and the real invasion make him undergo.

This will was translated through the plans of urban development of the four communes of the Northern suburbs of Tunis. It was confirmed by the plan of classification of October 7th, 1985 which affirms with the article first.
“It is instituted on the territory of the communes of Carthage, Goulette, Marsa and Sidi Bou Saïd, a set of sites classified because of their interest archaeological, historical, esthetic and natural called national archaeological Parc of Carthage-Sidi Bou Saïd”.

The official text adds: “This classification constitutes an act of protection and valorization of a set of historic sites of the inheritance to which UNESCO recognized the universal character. It is also an act of installation”.
Faithful to the spirit of the International convention of the World heritage which it signed in 1975 “to assign a function with the natural heritage and cultural in the collective life and to integrate the protection of this inheritance in its program of general planning”, the Tunisian government undertook studies within the framework of the international cooperation with UNESCO and the UNDP.
Beyond simple protection, he proposes to promote this space by the valorization of his richnesses.
