  • Historical:

    Old residence of the Imam Ibn Abdessalem, a scientist of the time hafside, died into 749/1348 this building became thereafter the seat of Médersa Asfouria then that of a religious organization which was created into 1314/1896, on the initiative of Sheiks of the large mosque az-Zitouna and former students of the Sadiki College. It understands a meeting room equipped with a library. Thanks to the courses and conferences given by eminent professors in the various modern disciplines, the institution, of which the goal was to make it possible to the students of Zitouna to reach the exact sciences, took an active part in the rise of the Tunisian culture. It bears the name of Khaldouniya in reference to the famous Tunisian historian Ibn Khaldoun born in Tunis at the beginning of 8th/14th century. After the independence and following the unification of the programs of State education, Association ceased its activities. The library which depended on it was affected at the National library which ensures, since, its management. The remainder of the building as well as old the médersa El Hamzia, neighbouring, are in the course of restoration and will be assigned to the cultural activities of the city.
