    This souk announced by Mr. Belkhodja in “Ma' alim At-Tawhid” and by S. Mr. Zbiss in “Monuments of the Medina of Tunis”, was built by the founder of the dynasty Hafside, Abou Zakariya 1st (7th/13th century) According to Mohamed Hchaïchi (death in 1331/1912) in “Habits and Tunisian Traditions” p. 377, the souk was famous for the trade of the gasolines of the water of flowers of jasmine and pinks as of amber, the q' meri and henna etc One practices there today in more the trade of the modern perfumes like that of the beauty products. One reaches this souk: in north, by the street of the Sieves, Souk Al Belghajiya, the street Sidi Ben Arous, in the west by the Souk At-Trouk and the south, by Souk Al Fakkah. Souk Al Attarine is rich in important historic buildings such as:
    • Jemaâ az-Zitouna,
    • Al Khaldouniya, old residence of the Imam Ibn Abdessalem, (a scientist of the time hafside) which became into 1314/1896 the seat of Association “Al Khaldouniya”,
    • it médersa Al Asfouriya, another monument dating from the time hafside, located at Darb (district) Ibn Abdessalem (near Khaldouniya),
    • The National library.
