The museum recalls the evolution of the technology of the cinema through the image and the sound since the beginning of the century, it shelters a collection of material of cinema going back to 1904.
The originators of the museum wanted to restore the environment of the cinema, in particular, that of the dark rooms of 7th Article.
As of the entry of the museum, the visitor is plunged in a felted atmosphere. He has initially an outline of the time preceding the cinema where the spectacles of “Karakouz prevailed” and the sicilian puppet theater. The Karakouz kind practiced in Tunisia since the 14th century used the technique of the Chinese shade. The visitor takes, then, knowledge of the developments in the technologies of the cinema through cameras, cameras, projectors, record players of the time of silent film as of the rare parts dating from the beginning of the century which are exposed there. A small room is arranged, on the first floor, for film projection. Moreover, the visitor can follow video films projected in continuous bands and centered on the history of the cinema. Texts are posted a little everywhere explaining the evolution of these techniques.
This museum is designed and carried out by a team of architects of the National agency of development of the inheritance and cultural promotion concerned with the ministry for the Culture.
This young generation, born from the movement of the school theater which made exceptional great strides in the Sixties and Seventies, made its weapons, initially, with the theater university and refined its knowledge in the most prestigious institutes and schools of theater of Europe.
